Very nice review. It went far to explaining the furor over the new Sunset Boulevard, while criticizing whet was missing for me. And, perhaps likewise, went far to explaining this new ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which seems, by report, to lack a transcendent Juliet at its center. I can’t bring myself to see it. I remember when ‘acting’ mattered. Remember Lauren Ambrose’s Juliet reflected in the rippling pools of the Delacorte? Now that was Shakespeare. And the rest (Welch’s wildly ungovernable Mercutio, for one) were exemplary too.
And I’m glad OUR TOWN continues to amaze. What a beautiful play. Not much mention of the Emily.

Made me think about the upcoming Othello and my high hopes for that. Denzel Washington seems ideal for it.
