You have 'x' sick days, and earn more as the run goes along. So that except for sick days, yes you can dock performers for missing performances. Little known fact is that understudies, in addition to their salaries for being understudies, get a per performance increase = (I believe 1/8 of their salary) for every time they go on. So that if a producer pays someone who misses performances, they are paying for the performance twice - though the understudy is working at a lower rate than the featured player.

One CAN dock the performer - but one can also choose to pay while they are out, depending ion circumstances and what the producer would like to do.
