Yes, I think that 1965-1966 simply had four leading actresses in musicals who took precedence over Diener. For one thing, all four of the nominees really carried their shows in a way that Diener did not carry Man of La Mancha. Diener was a second lead, while Verdon, Lansbury, and the two Harrises were clearly the lead in their shows. All got great reviews. Had one of those shows not been there that season, Diener surely would have been nominated. |
