I saw it. It was far from a full house the night I went, so I am guessing it just isn't selling well at all.
It's cute, but that's it. I suspect that with Drag the Musical and The Big Gay Jamboree (not to mention Titanique by the same people), there may not be room for another fun and silly gay musical. I haven't see Drag yet, but The Big Gay Jamboree is a much better production than this one, not to mention a lot more fun.
There is also something that feels oddly dated about it (it's set around the time gay marriage was passed in New York State), yet not dated enough that it feels historical. It's odd.
I will say, I have never seen the Duplex's theatre set up like this - usually that space is all cabaret with a piano/stage at one end. For this, the entire floor is painted and the audience sits in a circle around the perimeter. |
