A reunion of the Chicago film cast would be as good a casting as any, and would work on several levels because they are actual movie stars who can open a movie/get it funded, from an old movie about a long ago time, reuniting for a movie of an old musical about an long ago time (doesn't hurt than Chicago and Follies are both about pivotal times in American culture and theater, and both use that period/style as a metaphor for the story/themes)...

CAST: Richard Gere as Ben, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Phyllis, Renee Zellweger as Sally, John C. Reilly as Buddy, Christine Baranski as Carlotta, Queen Latifah as Stella Deems.

They are all sensationally suited to the roles, they're all age appropriate, they're all talented enough to pull it off, they can get the movie made and give it the kind of layered meaning/reference to help it be a modern experience of the original (obviously quite different and not the same meaning or the same layers, but no one alive today could play these roles and have that connection to the actual Follies or old hollywood, so we work with what we've got... and sitting here is an Oscar winning Best Picture movie musical with a perfect cast for Follies, waiting to be reunited on film!)

That said, there are many other actors I'd love to see do these roles in a movie, including Toni Collette of course.
