SHE LOVES ME was followed by KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY with Richard Kiley and Maureen Brennan. The third announced show, THE GOLDEN APPLE, was canceled because of insufficient ticket sales (though an abbreviated version was televised on CAMERA THREE with Margaret Whiting). A few years later, Bill Tynes founded The New Amsterdam Theatre Company which also presented past musicals in concert at Town Hall. The major difference was that New Amsterdam Theatre Company presented shows with a full orchestra (not a small contingent) and a full ensemble/chorus. Bill Tynes' company was the acknowledged prototype for such Musicals In Concert series as Encores! at City Center. In fact, there were crossover stars from company to company (such as Judy Kaye and Debbie Gravitte; Rebecca Luker made her NY debut at NATC's MUSIC IN THE AIR). - Michael Colby, a founding member of NATC |
