Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie's ''boy who wouldn't grow up,'' is often traditionally played by a woman: Mary Martin, Sandy Duncan, Cathy Rigby, etc. But what's really refreshing about this national tour, directed by Lonny Price, is that a charming, 17-year-old boy plays the title role. Nolan Almeida acts, sword-fights and sings like an angel, and even flies, floats and does flips in midair. In fact, the aerial work for all of the kids is heavenly to see.

I also appreciate Larissa Fasthorse's up-to-date efforts to eliminate the 70-year-old show's racial stereotypes of Indians. Happily, the cringy ''Ugg-a-Wugg'' number has been scrapped. It's been replaced by ''Friends Forever,'' a cheery and fun Act I finale, which might sound familiar to true Broadway buffs. It's a reworking of ''Comes Once in a Lifetime'' from ''Subways Are For Sleepiong,'' with new lyrics by Amanda Green, whose father, Adolph, co-wrote that song.

Though there are other changes I might quibble with, like losing Nana, the lovable dog, overall, ''Peter Pan'' is still a delightful and Darling family show.
