Well, I wasn't close enough to see anyone clearly but it was a delightful surprise. The orchestra sounded glorious and the choreography was spirited. The book is long (particularly Act One) and has its share of groaner, of their time jokes, but it also has a satiric irreverence that has traveled well through the decades -- through the centuries it's now safe to say. Some of the choral responses reminded me of moments in the early Marx Bros. movies, which makes sense when you consider that George S. Kaufman co-wrote Animal Crackers and The Cocoanuts. I honestly didn't know very much of the score but what I did know was beautifully delivered, in one case surprisingly so: I wouldn't have guessed that "I've Got A Crush On You" was originally an uptempo number! Beautifully sung and danced to all the same. I enjoyed hearing the bulk of the score for the first time. Everything sounded lush. The actor/singers were all spot-on, with Shereen Ahmed and Victoria Clark standing out in a strong cast. Everyone delivered.

The lyrics were shown above the action, and there were a couple of discrepancies. In one case both singers sang the same line but it was printed differently above, so I'm guessing the mistake wasn't made by the singers. The entire show, however, sounded worthy of being recorded for posterity. I have no idea if that happened, but it would make a wonderful recording if it did.
