I found this tour disappointing. While I thought the two male leads were terrific, Sweet sue and Sugar were not. Sweet Sue yelled many of her lines as if she were playing Evillene in The Wiz. I thought Sugar was engaging, but her vocals cracked several times and she sounded sharp. I am no expert, but her voice was not pleasant to my ear.
The dance ensemble also seemed off. Rather messy, which surprised me. I've never seen a tour where I would make that comment.
The door/chase sequence was admirable. I adored Osgood, funny, charming, and a beautiful voice.
I imagine the show was more fun on Broadway. I didn't have a bad time, just not a great one. |
