| Jones, whose father was singer-actor Allan Jones, had a hit album titled ''The Impossible Dream'' (1966) and got a Grammy nomination for it. But the lyrics for its title tune differed a little from the version that Richard Kiley sang in the Tony-winning musical of ''Man of La Mancha.'' Instead of: ''And to love pure and chaste from afar,'' Jones sang: ''To be better far than you are.'' Instead of: ''To fight for the right without question or pause. To be willing to go into Hell for that heavenly cause,'' the handsome, two-time Grammy-winning vocalist sang: ''To be willing to give when there's no more to give. To be willing to die, so that honor and justice may live.'' I'm assuming Joe Darion wrote those revised lyrics to Mitch Leigh's music. At any rate, Wikipedia reports that Jones did musicals in his later years, including a national tour where he played Don Quixote in ''Man of La Mancha.'' |
