I love Shaiman and Wittman's Tony-winning, toe-tapping tunes from ''Hairspray,'' but I also think their jazzy score to ''Catch Me If You Can'' was underrated and incredibly catchy. And if I were a Tony voter, I would've given Best Score to ''Some Like It Hot,'' rather than ''Kimberly Akimbo.'' I'm also fan of their wonderful TV work on ''Smash.'' I assume they're writing new tunes and incorporating old ones from the NBC show for Broadway. They better include ''Let Me Be Your Star,'' which was Emmy-nominated; ''I Never Met a Man Who Didn't Love to Howl,'' and my favorite: ''They Just Keep Moving the Line.'' See how many ''Smash'' alumni are on B'way: Megan Hilty (''Death Becomes Her''), Christian Borle (''Tammy Faye''), Jeremy Jordan (''The Great Gatsby'') ... |
