Probably cost-cutting when it comes to overtime, and, after the show has *somewhat* exhausted the potential of theatre lovers and die-hard fans (who were happy to sit though 5-hour and 3.5-hour versions of the play,) word-of-mouth is likely gonna be stronger for the more casual fans/tourist crowd, who will now sit through a feature-length version, which is more than enough for most of them. Most people are not looking for Nicholas Nickleby or Angels in America-style epic theatre.
