Something very similar happened with a large multi-theater building in Chicago a few years ago. For years and years many off-loop theater companies produced their shows at The Anthenaeum, a complex that houses a large auditorium and a handful of black box theaters. The building has always been associated with the Archdiocese but nobody batted an eye at content until a few years ago when several companies had their shows cancelled because of content. They now only allow Catholic appropriate shows to be performed in their black box theaters but continue to let anyone, regardless of content, rent their large auditorium.
