I know the show only from the CD, which I've played frequently and enjoyed each time. As another poster stated, I think it's a superior score.
I don't know, obviously, how it plays in the theater--or did all those years ago. The tone might have been "all over the place" but it works for me as a recording. Yes, it's funny at times and very dramatic at others.
I've always loved Christine Andreas' voice and interpretations, most definitely including her work here.
