That's very fair. And listen, I have no doubt the Dirty Dancing property did then and may still have a lot of love and mileage for ticket buyers, regardless of how good or not good it is said to be.

***stop reading now if you don't want to be angered by my deeply offensive possibly baseless assertions***

I suspect, no proof just suspect, that the reason she is the sole credited writer of the book of this new musical version of it is not because they think she's ideal for it or want it written by her alone because it's her story and her property, or even because her panned but successful stage version from 20002 was successful... but because she owns it and wants to do it. Which is certainly within her rights and her prerogative. I may also be wrong about her owning it or having legal right to pull the property or story or title without her... maybe Lionsgate controls all of that and are thrilled to have her as the book writer of this stage musical of it. But I also have strong suspicions (though no proof and I could be wrong), based not just on her age and the claimed intentions of this production/version, but on real life experience of musicals with famous properties especially... that she is being aided by a ghost "consultant" or "co-writer" who won't get credit (except perhaps "consultant"). She wouldn't be the first and she wouldn't be the last (if this is happening at all which it may not be).

My middle-aged mind, riddled as it is with toxic horrible ageism, just cannot be convinced that the producers of this surely expensive musical believe that an 87 year old who's been attached to this script and story for 40 years is the best person to do the difficult job of writing a good book for this new musical of it that also claims it will be re-thought to speak to today's audience. But maybe they do. And maybe their claims that it'll be rethought literally just mean that she's going to have them texting each other sometimes, and going viral from an IG Live of their rehearsal dance.

But truly, I don't know anything about this specific project, this is conjecture and opining, and none of it matters anyway.

To keep this board from experiencing the harm of my gratuitous ageism, I'm gonna stop commenting in this thread.
