Also, it's fun to see that the character of Denton, the crusading journalist played by Bill Pullman in the 1992 movie, has been revived by John Behlmann in this video. In the stage version, Fierstein smartly consolidated Denton and Jack's nominal love interest, Sarah, into one character: Katherine, the reporter. That pivotal change made all the difference: It gave the stage show a female lead who could go toe-to-toe with Jack, plus a romance that wasn't in the film. |
