| Vladimir Putin doesn't appear in the play though his persona looms over the story, which is about a fierce liberal Russian journalist (based on a real woman, I believe), fighting against his forces as he begins his reign in the early 2000s during the Chechen war and her frustration with the complacency she encounters in some of her colleagues and friends. There are, of course, clear parallels to America. I liked the production more than other posters and felt it was a better play than the production onstage. |
