She might be making her comeback playing Mae West when she sings "I'll be Mae!"
I saw Glenn Close in the original Broadway -- wonderful acting, voice effective in 2 songs mostly, otherwise not so much vocally. Elaine Paige marvelous throughout in singing and acting, and she, with her small stature, really seemed close to Gloria Swanson's Norma. Folks also tend to forget (or not be aware of) that Swanson herself had a lovely singing voice in some of her films; plus she had done demos for a "Sunset Blvd" musical years ago as well. |
