Astonishingly, the highest average ticket price on Broadway last week wasn't for the winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical or Best Play, a star vehicle, or our old standbys The Lion King or Hamilton. The highest average ticket price was for an 80-minute play by a playwright who has never appeared on Broadway before (and I'm not sure he's had a play produced before that wasn't a solo show), with a cast of 5 that has no box office draws, with 3 of them making their Broadway debut and 1 whose only prior Broadway credit is as an understudy, and I'm not sure she ever went on.

Bravo, Cole Escola and the team behind Oh, Mary! I'm sure the show has well surpassed their most extreme financial dreams. Now if I can just find a cheap ticket...

I don't remember ever noticing before that the highest average ticket price was for a play rather than a musical. Does anyone remember other examples of that? McNeal and Stereophonic are #4 and #5 by this metric (and McNeal undoubtedly would be #1 if it weren't done at a non-profit). The Outsiders is #2 ($2 behind Oh, Mary!), and Hamilton is #3.
