Keep in mind that in the Golden Age cast albums were on LPS (45 minutes or so of music), and were big business, as marketing tools. They wanted the songs out there. The dance arrangements would do nothing for the folk in Arizona planning a trip to NY and choosing shows. Teh sogs would.
Listening to complete performance of GYPSY from 1961, the song 'Together' is almost completely different on stage than it was on the cast album. ALl kinds of dance and specialty music during this number (including during the vocals) was smoothed out so as to make this a much simpler sing on the OBC album. |
