San Fran opera streams their shows for $28. You can watch live or for a few days later during 48 hour period—you must buy it before the live broadcast.
For most operas, there are other productions on YouTube for free. However, HT does not have one that I could find. So I’m posting here in case someone wants to see this opera.
I went to it live last night. I love the story but I don’t think this version is very menacing or emotionally engaging. It seems to be a lot of dialog sung instead of actual songs—seems to be common in modern operas from the few I have seen. Good production value but it prompted me to watch the 1990 movie in the next few days. I do love the Hulu series.
Final note—this opera premiered in 1998 (surprising that there aren’t productions on line). The ending described in wiki is very different from what I saw last night. I don’t know when it was revised. |
