I think it's a good play but I also think that Sam Mendes direction is some of the best I've ever seen on a Broadway stage. It's not David Cromer in that its primary aim isn't to zero in on intense and in-the-moment performances, though the performances are excellent. The play is a big canvas and Mendes brings all the production elements together masterfully. He is serving the text here in an exciting way. And I've never been a huge Mendes fan, particularly when it comes to his movies. |
