I agree with you about the similarities with Fleetwood Mac being a distraction. However, if they wanted to write about the backstage drama amongst Rick band members and they didn't want to use an all-male band, which was typical, it's going to look like Fleetwood Mac.
But it was not unusual to have American and British people involved in a recording session.
