Glinda is absolutely a lead role, as is Elphaba. But then... Velma was a lead role and was put into Supporting and won.
There is just about a zero chance that Ariana was going to get one of the few slots of Best Actress at the OSCARS for this role in this film, even if she's great. She does have a fighting chance at a nom in supporting. And Erivo is already a Best Actress Oscar nominee, and a Tony winner... so between the two, she has a much better chance of being taken seriously as a contender anyway. |
