Or ''Wicked film leads won't compete head-to-head for a nomination.'' It's an important distinction.

When I read the original topic line, it sounded as if Erivo and Grande might've decided to withdraw from the Oscar race (which sounded crazy).

Obviously, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've always considered Elphaba and Glinda co-leads. Oscar pundits will debate if this is ''category fraud.''

At the 1985 Oscars, both F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce were nominated for Best Actor for ''Amadeus.'' and Abraham still won his Academy Award as Salieri.

If there's ever a remake of ''Amadeus,'' I imagine the actor playing Mozart will be put up instead for Supporting Actor to better his chances at winning.

It just seems unfair to put co-leads in supporting. Because their roles are larger, they have a distinct advantage over truly ''supporting'' players.

Who knows? The Oscars nominated Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield, the STARS of ''Judas and the Black Messiah'' (2021), as BOTH Supporting. Huh?!
