I'm not surprised by this win at all, and I'll say I like a lot of their work.
But if it had been up to me, they wouldn't have a Tony for Score (it would have gone to Great Comet, though I do love a lot of the DEH songs), and they probably wouldn't have won their Best Song Oscar (which they only did lyrics for, strange for a composer/lyricist duo) because it would have gone to Lin for the Moana song. And while I really enjoy the Pickwick Triplets song, the fact that it took TWO of the most awarded and successful broadway/movie/tv songwriting teams to write it and they are all credited... is a bit odd. But hey, that's how it happened. I don't know the other songs they were nominated against, except the Girls5Eva song which I love (though it's not the usual comedy song that show does). But it is not up to me. So congrats to them. |
