The 76th Tony Awards went into the evening with 5 Emmy nominations: Variety Special (Live), Directing, Production Design, Lighting and Choreography. And its sole Emmy win went to Karla Puno Garcia for choreographing the Opening Number and Lifetime Achievement sequences. Ariana DeBose hosted, and because of the writers' strike, there was no script, and the opening was completely dance- and music-driven for the first time in history. The Tonys lost Variety Special (Live) to the Oscars, but ''Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic'' won the Emmy for Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). The Emmy for Costumes (Variety/Nonfiction/Reality) went to HBO's ''Taylor Mac's 24-Decade History of Popular Music.'' And Tony winner Alan Cumming won his first Emmy as Reality Host for emceeing ''The Traitors'' on Peacock. Night 2 of the Creative Emmys will be tomorrow night (Sun., Sept. 8), and the Primetime Emmys will be held the following Sunday (Sept. 15) on ABC. The Creative Emmys are not broadcast live, but you can follow them tomorrow at GoldDerby.com. An edited version of both nights will air Sept. 14 on FXX. |
