| Nathan Lane (and bevy of great supporting players) were instrumental in its broad entertainment, of course. But what also helped was the show's bigness, the excess. Large, gaudy set pieces, big production numbers, lush orchestrations. I'm curious, too, what a pared down production would be like. |
