Even though ''Love Is Sweeping the Country'' is a fun Gershwin tune, I suspect it's too obscure and old (1931), for the general public to ''get.''

However, Pres. Lyndon B. Johnson's 1964 campaign song was ''Hello, Lyndon!,'' set to Jerry Herman's title tune of ''Hello, Dolly!,'' which opened that year.

Liz Carpenter, Lady Bird Johnson's chief of staff, adapted the lyrics, and Carol Channing even sang it at the 1964 Democratic National Convention.
