Boy, did they bury the fact that the entire score was played on a poorly mic'd solo piano. Kathryn Olander, who played the piano did an excellent job. And Puccini's score, stripped of its orchestration sounded very modernist. So that was kind of interesting. The absence of projected supertitles was a disappointment. Good voices, particularly Victor Starsky as Cavaradosi. But all in all, I think they might have opted for an evening of arias rather than tackle a full (albeit pared down) opera. | |
