They’re not less than, but you need the wider scale popularity to keep those shows in play in high schools and community theaters, and the time frame here is longer than twenty years - you need those major revivals to put the shows back on the map of the wider consciousness (which includes all of the people who go to theater but never made theater).
There’s also going to be an additional skewing with high school shows towards material that works well for teenagers; Little Women is in that category, but there’s little interest in it beyond high schools. |
