During the riotous 80 minutes of Oh, Mary, you never know what’s going to come out of Cole Escola’s wildly inventive mind (or mouth) next. As Mary Todd Lincoln, Escola is caustic, sadistic, weirdly lovable, and so funny. I didn’t expect to like this show as much as I did. I had a blast. Conrad Ricamora, as the horny president, completely surrenders to Escola’s lunacy. But it’s Escola’s show, and they’re irreplaceable. I can’t imagine anyone else in this role. Escola is that good and fills this madcap romp with oodles of joyful, impish glee. An absolute delight.
As a theater goer on a budget, I got a seat in the Balcony, C1. It was a terrific seat for the price, $58. Be warned, though, the balcony is steep and there isn’t much leg room - except on the aisle. |
