| As tandelor says below, having Norma and Max appear to be around the same age doesn't make sense, or at least it doesn't to me (or tandelor). It may be that in the production, David Thaxton is made to appear significantly older than Norma, but you seem to be saying that isn't the case. I would add to what tandelor says that I think we're supposed to understand that Max gave up his career for Norma, that when she could no longer get work, he stopped working by choice. This doesn't have the same import if his career was from day one intertwined with hers. I think we're supposed to understand that Max could have continued working after Norma was no longer in demand. Max was a top director before Norma, and if he had chosen, he could have continued to direct after her time as a star was over. |
