Lauren, who wrote ''Childless Cat Ladies,'' is a wonderful and witty San Francisco songwriter and humorist.

In 1987, I directed ''Sunday After Dark With Sondheim,'' a tribute for Musical Theatre Loves United, founded by Bonnie Weiss in San Francisco. It featured Bay Area actors from Sondheim revivals and top cabaret singers, like Wesla Whitfield and Tom Andersen, and our special guest was Michael Feinstein.

Lauren was one of the night's highlights with her ''Sweeney Todd'' parody: ''The Worst Thighs in Hayward.'' She's also written ''Losing My Car.''

But her best-known Sondheim parody might be her ''Company'' parody: ''Another Hundred Lyrics,'' which Broadway star Liz Callaway has even recorded.
