I agree that the show felt repetitive after awhile. I wasn't as enamoured with it as others have been.
Up close, you can see that the costumes aren't that complicated and the wigs would need a massive overhaul if this had broadway aspirations.
This show would work a lot better if they'd have been given the ability to 'remix' the actual music. Watching it reminded me of how much I disliked the overly-synth-fabricated sound that ALW chose for this show. It was the '80s I suppose.
What was most unexciting for me was that these 'competitions' weren't really competitive at all. They didn't capture the very real nature of ballroom which can be thrilling with the right performers.
Everything I saw felt so.... Slow. |
