I became a Los Angeles Civic Light Opera season subscriber that year, looking forward to the chance of seeing Reynolds in GYPSY. I was never a great fan until I saw her in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN directed by Gower Champion which played at the same venue. She and the production were sensational (far superior to the Broadway revival). Her voice's strength impressed me and I looked forward to hearing her take on Rose. I wasn't aware her daughter was scheduled to appear with her and that it was canceled due to their bickering. At the time, the official reason being given was that the cancellation was due to the LACLO going bankrupt but that never really made sense to me since they could've waited for the season to officially end since it was the last production. And IIRC, that ended up being its last season. And what an awful season it was with Florence Henderson miscast in BELLS ARE RINGING and Milton Berle stepping out of character whenever given the opportunity in GUYS AND DOLLS. Yet, I still think Reynolds in GYPSY would've made up for it.
