Alan - that was one of the revelations for me at the LCT South Pacific - realizing that R&H and Robert Russell Bennett worked hard to defeat big button sand applause breaks after the 'book numbers', as opposed to novelty numbers like ' Honey Bun'. I agree 100% about 'What would you do' - but perhaps the applause for Bebe in this production of Cabaret comes from an audience, consciously or unconsciously being moved by a rare honest moment.
