Did they bring on a chorus of unwed mothers at Paper Mill, as in the film version of Mame? That's not in the show script. But I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if Robert Johanson did that. When I saw his final production at Paper Mill during his long tenure as artistic director, My Fair Lady, he borrowed a lot of staging stuff from the movie, none of which worked well onstage and some of which didn't even make sense onstage. None of it changed the lines, although they did oddly cut the whole "Hymn to Him" scene, but it did change who sang a couple of the lines because the king he brought on in "Just You Wait" sang the king's lines, as in the movie.

One thing he did that was not in the movie, and that made no sense historically, was to bring Oscar Wilde and Bosie on in the "Ascot Gavotte."
