I would love for there to be further libretto revisions - I wonder who Pascal willed the rights to - as long as they still work with the score. That said, there are two things that have long bothered me. First, Sennett and Normand were 12 years apart in real life, not the 30 that Preston and Peters were. Post-Broadway productions like Paper Mill have largely rectified that and I hope future productions remain attentive to it. More important, the libretto has Mack being incredibly condescending to Mabel, like saying he'll count for her - "One, you turn; two, you smile" or some such nonsense. In reality, Mabel Normand was not only an actress with 221 IMDB credits, she was also a director - of Chaplin, no less! - with 10 credits, as well as a writer with 6 credits, and a producer with 1 credit. Just, please, cut that out. Fun fact: there is a new biography of Normand by Sean Crose called Catholic Girl: The Life and Times of Mabel Normand.
