I'm a bit surprised that Matt Wolf writes, "But Staunton — who on Wednesday received an Emmy nomination for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in 'The Crown' — is probably the only English performer who can command as much respect in the role as those American ladies." I would think he knows how highly regarded Dora Bryan was in the role when she replaced Mary Martin in the first London production, then toured that production extensively after the West End run closed, and then returned to the role in 1988 for a tour of some of the big theatres around England. I might think that Wolf meant "the only English performer at present" if he hadn't preceded it by mentioning Channing, Bailey, Merman and Streisand.
