Carolee Carmello as Kimberly Akimbo

I was holding out hope that perhaps Victoria Clark would repeat her performance out here in Los Angeles when the tour comes to the Ahmanson, but guess not. I was so grateful to have seen her take on Sally in Follies at the Ahmanson - one that, for me, far eclipsed Peters on the album. I've heard some complaints about how the Kimberly Akimbo score sits in Clark's voice, but to me it works perfectly for her take on the character - mixing the glorious sound of her lyrical voice in the body of an older woman who is playing a teenager. That tension worked so well for me when listening to the album. Clark is such a stunning singing actress - I put her in league with Christine Ebersole.
BUT Carolee is certainly an inspired choice and I look forward to seeing her take on the role. I think of her as more of a belter, so it will be interesting to hear a totally different sound to Kimberly's songs than Clark's almost classical sound. I'm just glad this show is having a life on the road!
