But that's exactly why I think Rich and Happy is a problem. Having a Frank where every part of his life and career has fallen apart makes any remorse come from his failures. While I definitely prefer Rich and Happy as a stand-alone song over That Frank, I think the conflict between his successes and what he's given up to get them is more poignant. I always hated the line about him showing up to the graduation only if his marriage fails, his movie flops, etc . . . I think the opening scene - while still very problematic particularly because Frank is at his most unlikable - allows for him to keep open the hope that he's finally realized that he'd give up all his success to go back. Of course - Groff's likability in general is a huge part of that.
