| I was thinking about this recently and finding it strange that I have heard of very few if any regional theatre productions of the show. Even with all the summer musical seasons going on now. One would expect a musical that had a very successful Broadway run to be making the rounds of the regional theatres a couple years after closing, but this one isn't. The intricate multimedia that the staging calls for might make it difficult for a lot of smaller theatres to pull off, but it seems like the affordable small cast might offset that. So maybe it's true that the movie turned people off, or that they are seeing the subject matter as dated. |
