I totally disagree with your assessment and so did several of my friends who attended the concert Friday and Saturday.
I was sitting front orchestra so I had no issue with sound either. I do admit I wish that Fredrik and Count Magnus had been cast with different actors though I thought Raines and Hensley were good. I had seen Graham Rowat and Jason Danieley play Fredrik more recently and preferred their performances.
Cynthia Orivo was not phoning it in. I liked Susan Graham’s performance, Ruthie Ann Miles was the best, Jason Gotay and Jin Ha were both very good and Kerstin Anderson was lovely Anne. I also liked all the chorus singers.
The audience around me was quite enthusiastic to many of the songs and to Jonathan Tunick’s conducting. |
