For whatever it's worth (and it's worth nothing), I was using "woke" as a pejorative to describe theatre that leads with "activism" or virtue signaling in lieu of character or story. Obviously, HAMILTON does not fall into that category -- and it's bad faith reasoning to assume that anyone who uses "woke" as a criticism is racist, anti-women, etc. etc.

I will leave Naveen's review for Roundabouts ... WHAT THE END WILL BE as the #1 example of how he lost me as a reader. This was, without hyperbole, the worst thing I've ever seen on a professional stage. And, wouldn't you know it -- CRITIC'S PICK! The writing, acting, design -- literally everything -- was abysmal (and OBVIOUSLY AMATEUR), it was clearly fast-tracked by Roundabout coming out of the pandemic (it featured the pandemic as a plot point), it was half-baked but featured LARGE IDEAS about what it meant to be GAY and BLACK. Mind you, everything falls apart at the seems as they're hurdling through the "story." Whatever, to each their own -- but to disregard genuine critical thought about the nature of contemporary theatre production and programming (on a board dedicated to talking about contemporary theatre production and programming, among other things) is so silly. Out of hand accusations of bigotry are so silly. You don't even know what I look like!
