Jellicle Ball (Cats) and a thought about Merrily

Jellicle Ball was a hoot. Amazing dancing and costumes. A Drag Extravaganza. Although the Original Cats had a meager story line, I could at least relate to most of the cat's and had some interest in their storylines --- for most of this show I didn't know what was going on, but just enjoyed the flamboyant production.
Now, why have I never really enjoyed Merrily We Roll Along (3 productions) -- all interesting, well sung, and acted. I think it's the reverse order. I never seem to pick up the outcomes of the happenings we don't know about until later. So, I'm confused. Also the reverse chronology is just as annoying as a play which has a Sametime Next Year orientation. I like a play that's virtually a short story -- condensed and emotionally interesting.
