I think this is a well produced production, but the story doesn’t particularly hold me and these people are just kind of nasty. The tight set/direction doesn’t give us much breathing room to escape these tortured beings.
I agree that the songs have a cabaret feel - They are all fine, but the whole doesn’t really add up to a lot for me.
And I still prefer the Sondheim festival production to any I’ve seen. It was much more…merry. |
