COMPANY SF Tour Company

The SF touring production of Company received mixed notices for some of the cast members' singing, but the singing was uniformly excellent at today's matinee. However, the staging of "What Would We Do Without You" and "Tick Tock" just did not work, lots of busy moving around without a central idea or metaphor to ground those numbers in the theme of the show. I missed Michael Bennett's staging for the opening of Act 2. Joanne's offer for her husband for Bobbie does not have the same impact as Joanne offering herself to Bobby in the original -- we lose the "kept boy" image that Bobby can reject because he wants to grow up. Cast was wonderful, audience 1/2 full with lots of discount tickets. Too bad, an enjoyable afternoon of theatre.
