I'm posting this in the spirit of the show must go on!

A friend and I had tickets for the 7 p.m. performance Friday night and were both very excited to see the play. The was a long delay opening the house, with crammed into New York Theater Workshop's air-conditioned lobby and others outside. By 7 p.m., the house was still not open. I happened to see Patrick Pacheco walking through the crowd. I recognized him from much-missed Theater Talk program. I overheard him telling his theater companion that there is an issue with the lighting.

Finally, the house was opened and we all filed in, only to sit there until close to 8 o'clock. (I can't remember the exact time.) All this while, no announcements had been made, to my knowledge. If it hadn't been for Patrick Pacheco, I wouldn't have known what was going on! Finally two young women took the stage and started to talk so fast that we had no idea what they were saying. One of them (I'm sorry to say I don't remember her name) slowed down to say that the lighting issue meant that they would have to perform the show without the "700 lighting cues" that would normally be needed. She went on to say that since there are so few performances left in the run, it would be hard to find tickets for all of us to see the show if this performance were to be canceled. She asked how we felt about seeing the show without the lighting cues, and added we would have adequate light to see the performers and all the projections, which of course are crucial to this show.

We clapped and indicated our willingness to do that. I don't know if some audience members left or not. It's possible. So the show finally started. Since it was my first time seeing it, I had no idea what the usual lighting would be. At the very beginning, the two actors standing on either side of the Leica camera stand were pretty much in darkness. But after that, the lighting seemed pretty normal to me.

My friend and I were very moved by the show and very glad our performance wasn't canceled.

I'm posting this in case anyone has tickets for today. I'm hoping the lighting issue has been solved!
