| Sutherland was Malcolm, in 10 Unknowns by Jon Robin Baitz wherein he played a hubristic ex-pat painter with Julianna Margulies as the brainy love-interest and Justin Kirk as his smack-addicted, gay assistant. The Lincoln Center script is quite different from the published script, though both versions have great plusses (Baitz’ ripe language. the south-of-the-border atmosphere, an attempt to address climate-problems, an end-of-Act-One coup de theatre) and minusses (the romantic relationship seems tacked on and extraneous to the central discussions about art, aging, and talent). Very interesting subject matter. Critics’ reviews were mixed. There were rumors about troubled rehearsals. Bravo to him for continuing to play in the theatre! (I did not see it.) |
